- Kostik appeared in June last year. We rested at the dacha with all our large family (a cat, a dog, a parrot and 2 rats), and I noticed that our cat Morty had been sitting under the house for a long time and was looking at something. I was sure it was either a beetle or a lizard. Curiosity got the better of me and I went to have a look. My surprise knew no bounds when I saw a fluffy ball with beady eyes) Our cat is a “hunter” and it was surprising that he did not touch him, perhaps due to the fact that the chick froze, and the cat was waiting for him to move in order to grab it.

When I took the chick in my hands, he did not even move. I did not find a nest, and there were no birds nearby, and neighbor cats often enter our territory, so it was decided to take the chick home.
- Tanya, it was probably difficult to feed such a small chick? Was it your first experience?
- Yes, before that I had never dealt with birds, especially since the chick was quite tiny. I read on the Internet how to make a mixture for feeding and realized that I would not find these ingredients in the country. It was decided to return home.

The first time feeding was difficult, the chick was very weak, he did not want to open his beak, he had to force feed. The next morning it was scary to look into the carrier, because it was not clear whether he was alive? But everything was fine and, each time, it became easier to feed the chick, and on the second day, Kostya himself began to open his beak and away we go!

I fed every 1-1.5 hours - from 6 in the morning until 9-10 in the evening, and it was like that for a month. I felt like a nursing mother, Kostya awakened directly maternal feelings in me). He ate and immediately after eating he fell asleep in his arms, it was so cute!
Yes, you have had a difficult time. You couldn't leave the chick for a minute, could you?
- This month we took Kostya everywhere with us), so he got used to traveling by car and now he is calmly, without stress, traveling with us, this is how Kostya rides in a car. We can say that the bird has become an avid summer resident and traveler!

– Was it difficult to teach Kostya to eat on his own? Share your experience, maybe it will help someone else!
- Gradually taught him to eat on his own: before feeding, she scattered food in front of him and attracted his attention by tapping her fingers. Since Kostya was very curious, he happily sorted through the food with his beak. Every day he got better and better. And about a week later, he completely refused to eat from a syringe and swarm around in the feeder all day).

On the one hand, it became easier, but somewhere it was even a pity that "mother is no longer needed." It's like weaning a baby
- If you compare the first and subsequent photos of the carduelis, you can see a striking difference. I can imagine how interesting it was to watch this “transformation”!
- Yes, it was very interesting how Kostya turns from a "ripple chicken" into a bright, red-headed goldfinch. I even made a video of his transformation into an adult bird.

- Yes, I am often asked why I called the chick Kostya? On the day when we found him, our friend Konstantin was visiting us, and we jokingly said that we would call the chick Kostya and, in the end, he remained Kostya) Although the friend was indignant for a long time: “How so? Goldfinches called him by his name, that would be an eagle! But already reconciled))

- And now, when Kostya has grown up, what do you feed him? What can he eat?
- Kostya loves greens (lettuce, dandelions), vegetables, fruits. There is always grain available, I also give it food for canaries with the addition of sunflower seeds. Periodically I buy flour worms, he also eats them with pleasure.

- Are there any difficulties in caring for the grown Konstantin? How does he behave when you let him fly?
- To be honest, the maintenance and care of Kostya does not present any difficulties for me. In the morning I pour fresh water, pour food, during the day I give greens, vegetables, fruits.
He has a fairly spacious cage, which I clean every 2-3 days. We also bought Kostya such a “coconut house”, he is very pleased with it:

At least once a day I let him fly and all this time he, like a little Velcro, is with me. He bites his nails, sorts through his hair, earrings, rings - nothing remains without Kostya's attention) This little bird gives us all so many positive emotions!

Kostya turned out to be a very curious and intelligent bird. He knows the command “to me”, he knows how to lift a small bucket on a string, in which I put various delicacies for him. The method of obtaining sweets has already been brought to automatism by him.

I would never have thought that a goldfinch could talk! The teacher of the year is Peas, right according to the proverb: “Whoever you behave with, that’s what you’ll get!” I want to say that the parrot and the goldfinch get along well and even communicate with each other in voices.
Kostya himself sings incredibly beautifully, every day we are like in a forest. Sometimes his singing resembles the sounds of a yodel.

I love all my animals very much, but I have some maternal feelings for Kostya) He needs me so much, even after a year he behaves like a baby bird. I feel how much he loves me, I see how much he misses me, how he looks at me - it's beyond words! I never thought that birds can love and show their feelings so much. In general, Kostya is our universal favorite, but most of all he is attached to me.
