Oh, possum! Learning to distinguish between cute marsupials
The first time I saw the word "possum", I thought: "Oh, someone has sealed himself." By the way, text editors and search engines do not honor this word either. The confusion has a long and funny history: even members of the expedition of James Cook (yes, the same one) mistakenly called the Australian possums possums. But possum and possum are rather distant relatives. Despite the fact that they both belong to marsupials, they live in different parts of the world. Possums "captured" America and belong to the possum family, while possums live in Australia and are proudly called cuckoo. Today we will talk about the "Americans".
This city needs a new ... possum
Baby possums (@possumcity) live in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. It's not just a bunch of funny animals - they see themselves as a true urban community. Have possums Ontario has its own governor and sheriff - of course, also possums, because in nature, each flock has its own leader. Does it matter that the cozy and welcoming City of Possums is inside human habitation?

Possums are less attached to humans and are difficult to train. In nature, they move through trees, so the owners have to be prepared for the fact that the pet can dashingly rush along the highest shelves, without worrying about fragile things. By the way, not the most pleasant surprise may fall "from the top floor": it is impossible to toilet train a possum. Possums-males mark their territory with an odorous liquid: this, too, will have to be reconciled.
The opossum is more peaceful and patient, which makes it an almost ideal pet. Why almost? Some surprises still await you, but, to paraphrase the famous saying, he who does not take risks does not stroke a possum (and this is a great loss!). First, the possum - a night party-goer. No matter how hard you try, your biorhythms will not match. As Oakville falls asleep, the City of Possums awakens. And here you can expect a party! Secondly, like any wild animal, the possum has a pungent odor. You can get rid of it by regularly cleaning the cage. Thirdly, infrequently, but there are animals that are almost impossible to tame. There is nothing to be surprised at: behind the possum there are no generations of pets, like, for example, cats and dogs.

Oops, possum!
Interestingly, what kind of cuisine is the City of Possums famous for? Feeding a possum is easy, almost omnivorous. Wild possums in North America often find their food in garbage containers, but owners do not advise feeding possums from the table. The best food - this is a balanced, varied diet made from exclusively fresh products. By the way, possums, like possums, often have a craving for human sweets with added sugar, but this is an addiction. If the possums, for example, even recommend water with the addition of honey (no wonder they are called sugar squirrels), then possums are better off with fruit.
The owners of our today's heroes say: if you decide to have a possum, then it is unlikely that everything will be limited to one. This, by the way, is justified. In nature, possums live in packs, and together it will be more fun for them, and you will have several cute pink noses at once. Better than a possum, there can only be two possums :)

If, after looking at the cute possums, you decide to get yourself a couple of sugar squirrels, do not rush to make a final decision! These animals are also charming, and by the way, they not only delight the owners, but are also ambassadors of the Wildlife Protection Program! Cities grow, and many possums fall prey to stray dogs, fall under cars and into the hands of violent people. In addition to Gilbert and Penny Poo, the team has experienced veterinarians and other professionals who save lives of animals on a daily basis.
Gilbert and PennyPu faithfully wait for the owners at the door and fly up in their arms in anticipation of affection, and show their teeth only when absolutely necessary. By the way, in case of danger, the possum can pretend to be dead: it looks funny, but the animal is experiencing extreme stress at this moment.
Just like a man
Owners often compare possums with human children: the animal is curious, naive and requires proper upbringing. A spoiled possum can be a real disaster. Gilbert and Penny Poo are not like that at all: they are immensely grateful to the people who saved them, they are affectionate and contact. It is no longer possible to return them to the wild: the possums living in captivity get used to homemade food and safety, so death awaits them outside the house.
Don't cage the possum! In its natural environment, the animal loves physical activity. The hosts Gilbert and Penny Poo created a real obstacle course for their pets. By the way, if you spare the money for entertainment for a baby possum (ladders, labyrinths, cat houses and toys for other pets are suitable), then you risk being left without your favorite gizmos. The possum will only crawl on furniture if you do not offer him a more exciting alternative.
Thanks to their expressive face and pronounced facial expressions, possums often become characters in memes and funny videos. Just look at him! What a pretty guy!
